The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Osun State has called on all registered political parties to strictly comply with the Electoral Act 2022 and the Commission’s guidelines as preparations heighten for the 2026 party primary elections.
In a statement released by the Commission’s Public Affairs Officer, Musa Oluode, INEC stressed the importance of organizing credible, transparent, and peaceful primaries, noting that adherence to the rules remains essential for reducing pre-election disputes.
The Commission expressed concern that party primaries often trigger avoidable legal battles, largely due to non-compliance with established procedures. It urged political parties to provide a level playing field for all aspirants and ensure that internal elections reflect the choices of their members.
According to INEC, the party primaries are scheduled to take place between 24 November and 15 December 2025.
“The Commission is prepared to provide the necessary support and guidance to parties to ensure their primaries are conducted in accordance with the law. We call on all stakeholders, including security agencies, to support the Commission in its efforts to ensure peaceful and credible party primaries,” the statement read.
INEC further reiterated that it will continue to monitor party activities and will take any action permitted under the law against parties that fail to comply with electoral provisions.
