The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has declared a total and comprehensive two-week warning strike across all public universities in Nigeria.
The Union’s National President, Professor Chris Piwuna, announced the decision on Sunday during a press conference at the University of Abuja.
Piwuna said the action followed the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum issued on September 28, 2025, which elapsed without any meaningful response from the government.
“All ASUU branches nationwide have been directed to commence a full withdrawal of services beginning midnight, Monday, October 13, 2025,” he stated.
According to ASUU, the decision was reached after its National Executive Council meeting, where members expressed frustration over the government’s neglect of the university system and failure to meet long-standing demands.
“In August 2025, our members across both federal and state universities held rallies urging the government to act on the lingering issues. Nothing came out of it,” the union lamented, accusing authorities of showing “little or no concern” for the education sector and the welfare of university lecturers.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government last week appealed to ASUU to suspend its planned action, assuring that efforts were ongoing to address the outstanding issues raised by the union.
