The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the incumbent governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, winner of the August 15 governorship election.

Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party, defeated his closest challenger, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, in the keenly contested election.

The governor polled 511,067 votes, while Oyebamiji secured 444,815 votes.

The state returning officer, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, declared Adeleke the winner in the early hours of Sunday after the collation of results from the 30 local government areas of the state.

Oyebamiji finished in second place, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, emerged as the second runner-up.

A total of 15 political parties participated in the election, which attracted significant voter turnout across the state.

According to INEC, 1,906,390 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) had been collected ahead of the poll.

The election was marked by a keen contest between Adeleke and Oyebamiji, with both major candidates expressing confidence in victory throughout the campaign and voting process.

With the declaration, Adeleke has secured another term as governor of Osun State.
