The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) Branch, has declared a total, comprehensive and indefinite strike, effective Monday.

The union announced the decision in a press release following a branch congress where members deliberated on what they described as the continued non-implementation of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement and other unresolved issues affecting academic staff of the university.

According to the statement, the union had exhausted several avenues of dialogue and engagement with relevant authorities without securing satisfactory implementation of the agreement or resolving the outstanding local issues.

“The decision was taken at the Branch Congress held today following the continued non-implementation of the 2025 FGN-ASUU Agreement and other unresolved local issues affecting academic staff of the University,” it said.

“The Branch had exhausted several avenues of dialogue and engagement with the relevant authorities without securing satisfactory implementation of the agreements and resolution of the outstanding issues”.

The statement, signed by the Chairperson of ASUU NSUK Branch, Zubairu Loko, said the branch had earlier sought and obtained approval from the National Executive Council (NEC) of ASUU before commencing the industrial action.

The union said agreements freely reached by the parties must be respected, implemented and honoured.

“Dialogue without implementation cannot continue indefinitely,” the union stated, stressing that continued discussions without concrete action could no longer guarantee the resolution of the issues.

ASUU NSUK expressed regret over the inconvenience the strike might cause students, parents and other stakeholders, but maintained that the responsibility for restoring industrial harmony rested on urgently resolving the issues that triggered the action.

“ASUU NSUK regrets the inconvenience the action may cause students, parents and other stakeholders. However, the Union believes that the responsibility for restoring industrial harmony rests on the urgent resolution of the issues that necessitated the strike,” the union said.

The union called on the Federal Government, Nasarawa State Government, the Governing Council and management of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, as well as other relevant stakeholders, to urgently intervene and take concrete steps towards resolving the issues behind the strike.
