The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has vowed to resist any attempt to disrupt its planned presidential candidate ratification convention amid an alleged dispute involving the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

In a statement issued on Friday, the opposition party alleged that the management of A Class Event Centre in Wuse 2, Abuja, informed its officials about threats allegedly made by Wike to shut down the venue if it hosts the PDP event.

The party maintained that it had already fulfilled all contractual obligations regarding the use of the facility, including full payment and completion of necessary arrangements.

According to the PDP, relevant security agencies had also been formally notified ahead of the convention.

The party disclosed that its legal team had been directed to officially write the management of the event centre to remind them of the existing agreement between both parties.

Despite the reported threat, the PDP insisted that its special convention to ratify former President Goodluck Jonathan as its presidential candidate would proceed as scheduled on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 10 a.m. in Abuja.

The party stressed that Nigeria remains a constitutional democracy governed by the rule of law and warned against attempts to intimidate or suppress opposition activities.

“There is nowhere in our laws where the Minister of the FCT is empowered to determine events that should be held and where they should be held,” the statement read.

The PDP described any attempt to interfere with the gathering as contrary to democratic principles and political freedom.

The opposition party also urged members of its National Executive Committee, party leaders and stakeholders across the country to attend the convention as planned.

The statement was signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong.
