Minister of Works, David Nweze Umahi, has publicly endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term, formalising his support by signing the presidential nomination form. The move underscores his confidence in the administration’s reform agenda and development strategy.

The endorsement was disclosed in a statement released on Tuesday by Umahi’s Senior Special Assistant on Media, Francis Nwaze, who described the action as both a political declaration and an affirmation of trust in the government’s policy direction.

Speaking on the development, Umahi characterised the nomination form as more than a routine requirement, describing it as a significant marker in Nigeria’s political and developmental trajectory. According to him, it represents “a defining moment in Nigeria’s ongoing development journey,” adding that it reflects “a collective commitment to continuity, stability, and the consolidation of gains recorded under the current administration.”

The minister anchored his support on ongoing infrastructure projects nationwide, highlighting road construction efforts as indicators of what he described as a results-oriented government. He noted that “ongoing projects across the country are part of the administration’s resolve to deliver tangible results,” while emphasising that current achievements provide a foundation for broader national progress.

Umahi further stressed the importance of leadership continuity, arguing that sustained governance is key to maintaining development momentum. He maintained that President Tinubu is “well positioned to complete ongoing initiatives and further deepen development across all sectors.”

He also called for political stability ahead of the next general elections, urging Nigerians to support the administration’s long-term vision. In his words, “consistent leadership is essential to achieving long-term national goals.”

Meanwhile, it was earlier reported that the President’s expression of interest and nomination forms were obtained by James Abiodun Faleke, the lawmaker representing Ikeja Federal Constituency, on Tinubu’s behalf. Faleke collected the documents in Abuja following the commencement of the process by the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Organising Secretary, Suleiman Mohammed Argungu.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the presidential and National Assembly elections for January 16, 2027, with governorship and State Assembly polls set for February 6, 2027.

The endorsement by Umahi adds to growing political momentum within the ruling APC as preparations gradually intensify for the 2027 general elections.
