Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has fixed May 8 to rule on a no-case submission filed by activist Omoyele Sowore in his alleged cyberbullying trial involving President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The case, instituted by the Department of State Services (DSS) on behalf of the Federal Government, centres on allegations that Sowore described the President as a “criminal” on his X handle.

At the resumed hearing, both parties adopted their final written arguments on the no-case submission.

Sowore’s counsel, Marshall Abubakar, argued that the prosecution failed to establish any link between his client and the alleged offences, urging the court to uphold the application.

In response, DSS counsel, Akinlolu Kehinde, maintained that the prosecution had presented sufficient evidence through its witnesses to warrant a defence, and asked the court to dismiss the no-case submission.

After listening to both sides, Justice Umar adjourned the matter to May 8 for ruling.

The DSS had earlier amended the charges in the case, which centres on a two-count allegation of cyberbullying.
