NIS Denies Irregularities in Passport Application, Payments

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has dismissed reports alleging irregularities in its passport application and payment process, describing them as false and misleading.

In a statement issued from its headquarters in Abuja, the Service, through its spokesman, DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, said all passport applications and payments are conducted exclusively through its official portal.

The NIS stressed that its secure, government-approved system remains the only authorised platform for processing passport applications for Nigerians both at home and abroad.

It clarified that it has not authorised any religious body, private organisation, or individual to act as an intermediary or collect payments on its behalf, warning that such claims are fraudulent.

According to the statement, allegations linking a religious organisation to its payment system are unfounded and do not reflect the integrity of its operations.

The Service urged the public to verify all transactions through its official portal and avoid engaging with third-party platforms or links.

It also disclosed that investigations have commenced into the source of the claims, noting that preliminary findings suggest deliberate attempts to mislead the public and damage the agency’s reputation.

The NIS said it will take appropriate action against those found responsible.

Reaffirming its compliance with government financial regulations, the Service stated that it only works with licensed and accredited payment service providers listed on its official platform.

It warned that any payments made outside approved channels are at the user’s risk and advised Nigerians to rely on verified communication channels for enquiries and support.
