Health authorities in Cross River State have dismissed reports suggesting 10 new COVID-19 infections, maintaining that only a single case has been confirmed.

The State Commissioner for Health, Henry Ayuk, clarified the situation on Thursday during an appearance on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief.

“I want to use this opportunity to tell Nigerians that the information that has gone around that 10 more cases have been identified in Cross River is not correct; we have only one case,” Ayuk said.

He explained that the confusion likely stemmed from the identification of 10 contacts linked to the index case, which may have been misinterpreted as confirmed infections.

The clarification follows the recent confirmation of a fresh COVID-19 case in the state, years after the global pandemic that claimed millions of lives.
