Authorities in Sokoto State have confirmed that no lives were lost following a United States airstrike in Jabo, Tambuwal Local Government Area of the state.

The Police Area Commander in charge of Tambuwal LGA, Muhammed Augie, who was present at the scene, declined to comment directly on the incident but urged the District Head of Jabo, Alhaji Abubakar Jabo, to caution residents against visiting the strike location or handling fragments from the explosion.

Despite the warning, reports indicate that some residents, reportedly affected by prevailing economic hardship, were seen collecting debris from the site.

Meanwhile, the Commandant of Base 15 Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit in Sokoto, Hassan Jatau, said the area had been cordoned off to prevent possible harm from unexploded materials. He emphasised the need for public sensitisation, noting that unexploded ordnance could pose serious danger.

“We were very lucky there is no casualty, and no one was hurt as a result of the bombing episode,” Jatau said.

As of the time of filing this report, the Sokoto State Government had yet to issue an official statement on the incident. However, the Deputy Governor, Engineer Idris Mohammed Gobir, was reportedly expected to visit the affected community and address residents.

Authorities also confirmed that no residential buildings were damaged by the airstrike, while security agencies continue to monitor the area to ensure the safety of residents.

The police and military have urged the public to remain vigilant and strictly adhere to safety guidelines to avoid injuries from bomb fragments or possible secondary explosions.
