Nigeria Confirms US Air Strikes on Terrorist Targets in Northwest

The Federal Government has confirmed that United States forces carried out precision air strikes on terrorist targets in Nigeria’s North West, following intelligence-driven security cooperation between both countries.

In a statement released early Friday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Nigerian authorities remain engaged in structured counter-terrorism collaboration with international partners, including the United States, to address the persistent threat of terrorism and violent extremism.

According to the ministry, the cooperation—conducted in line with international law and bilateral agreements—has resulted in targeted air strikes against terrorist enclaves in the region. The engagement, it said, involves intelligence sharing, strategic coordination and other forms of support consistent with mutual respect for Nigeria’s sovereignty and shared commitments to regional and global security.

The government stressed that all counter-terrorism operations prioritise the protection of civilian lives, national unity and the rights and dignity of all Nigerians, regardless of faith or ethnicity. It noted that terrorist violence, whether directed at Christians, Muslims or any other group, remains unacceptable and a threat to international peace and security.

The ministry added that Nigeria will continue to work closely with its partners through established diplomatic and security channels to dismantle terrorist networks, disrupt their financing and logistics, curb cross-border threats and strengthen domestic security and intelligence capabilities.

It assured that the public would be kept informed through official channels as engagements with relevant partners continue.
