The Deputy Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Muhammad Sama’ila Bagudo, who was abducted by gunmen on October 31, has regained his freedom.
The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed his release in a statement on Sunday, noting that the lawmaker has been reunited with his family after undergoing medical evaluation.
According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, the rescue followed sustained pressure from a combined team of security operatives deployed for the operation.
Abubakar commended the courage and professionalism of the security personnel involved, as well as residents who provided credible intelligence that aided the lawmaker’s safe return.
“The Command reiterates its commitment to intensifying the fight against banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes across the state,” the statement read in part. “We urge residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements to the nearest security post.”
Bagudo was seized from his hometown in Bagudo Local Government Area shortly after observing his evening prayers. His abduction sparked tension across the community and prompted a coordinated manhunt by police, the military, and local vigilante groups.
