The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, says Nigeria and the United States have commenced discussions on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the aviation sector to promote mutually beneficial opportunities for both countries.

Keyamo disclosed this in a statement shared on his official X handle on Saturday following a meeting earlier in the week with the Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Mission to Nigeria, Keith Heffern, and the Country Consular Head for the United States Mission in Nigeria, Pamela Hack.

According to the minister, the meeting was attended by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, the Director-General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), the Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), as well as other senior ministry officials.

Keyamo said the discussions centred on expanding cooperation between the aviation industries of both countries.

“We discussed how the aviation industries in the US and Nigeria can cooperate in several ways that can be mutually beneficial to both countries,” he said.

The minister also disclosed that the U.S. delegation acknowledged ongoing reforms in Nigeria’s aviation sector under the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

According to him, the delegation praised the Federal Government’s efforts to reposition the sector and reaffirmed its commitment to continued collaboration with Nigeria.

“The US delegation commended the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for some of the positive strides in the aviation sector and pledged their continued cooperation with the Nigerian Government in advancing the sector,” Keyamo stated.
