The National President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Olufunmilola Disu, has carried out surprise welfare visits to police barracks in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), providing support to officers’ families ahead of the association’s National Convention.
The outreach, which took place between July 14 and 15, 2026, covered the Area C Police Barracks, Nyanya, and the 44 PMF Barracks, Kuje.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Aniete Okokon Edem Iniedu, Disu, accompanied by members of her management team, toured markets within the Area C Barracks without prior notice, engaging directly with women traders, widows, and spouses of police officers.
During the visits, the POWA President observed the economic challenges facing police families, including poorly stocked shops and the financial difficulties affecting their livelihoods.
The statement disclosed that selected beneficiaries received cash grants, business starter packs, and food items to help them restock their businesses and improve their household welfare. The beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the intervention, describing it as timely and impactful support.
Explaining the reason for the unannounced visits, Disu said, “The visit was deliberately unannounced to capture an authentic picture of the realities confronting police families.”
She added, “Only by witnessing these challenges firsthand can POWA design and deliver support that truly addresses their needs.”
The outreach was conducted under the POWA CARES Initiative, which focuses on healthcare, welfare support, and economic empowerment for police families. According to the statement, the initiative aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
The welfare programme also serves as a precursor to the POWA National Convention, scheduled to hold from July 16 to 18, 2026, with the theme: “The Resilient Woman: Navigating Life’s Challenges with Strength, Purpose and Grace.”
The convention is expected to focus on healthcare, mental wellness, economic empowerment, and strengthening family support systems.
