Gunmen have attacked the Ahoro-Esinele community in Oyo State, abducting the principal of a secondary school alongside an unspecified number of students.
The incident occurred on Friday morning between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. at Community High School Ahoro-Esinele in Oriire Local Government Area, according to residents of the area.
Community sources said the attackers invaded the school premises and forcefully took away several students, although the exact number of those abducted had yet to be confirmed as of the time of filing this report.
The assailants also abducted the school principal, Rachael Alamu.
Residents further disclosed that one of the teachers was shot during the attack, though details regarding the severity of the injuries remain unclear.
According to eyewitness accounts, the gunmen escaped through a forest reserve surrounding the community after fleeing with the principal in her vehicle.
Locals said the distance between the community and the nearest police station contributed to delays in emergency response efforts.
Confirming the development, spokesperson for the Oyo State Police Command, Olayinka Ayanlade, said security authorities were aware of the attack.
He noted that the exact number of abducted victims had not yet been verified.
Ayanlade also disclosed that the Commissioner of Police and a team of officers were already en route to the community to assess the situation and coordinate response operations.
