Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has expressed support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election, saying the country is being steered in the right direction and needs continuity to sustain ongoing reforms.
He made the remarks on Thursday while opening the meeting of the Southern Traditional Rulers Council in Port Harcourt, where monarchs from the 17 southern states gathered to discuss unity, security, and economic growth.
Fubara said the administration is making visible progress in economic recovery and infrastructure delivery, including coastal road projects, despite prevailing challenges, stressing that stability in leadership is crucial.
He noted that “it is not ideal to change the goalposts in the middle of the game,” urging stakeholders in the region to work together in pursuit of shared development goals.
The governor also described the presence of traditional rulers as a reflection of Rivers State’s peaceful environment and its capacity to host major national events.
Earlier, the Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, who chairs the council, said the meeting was aimed at strengthening unity and promoting peace across the southern region.
He noted that the council mirrors Nigeria’s diversity, with hundreds of dialects spoken across the South, describing the gathering as a symbol of unity in diversity.
According to him, the Port Harcourt session is the fourth in the series, after previous meetings in Imo, Ogun, and Lagos states.
He added that the forum offers traditional rulers a platform to deliberate on common interests and explore ways to support government efforts in tackling security and economic challenges.
The meeting drew participation from prominent monarchs across the South-South, South-East, and South-West, including the co-chairman of the council, the Obi of Obinugwu, Eze Cletus Illomuanya, and the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Senator Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja.
