The Kaduna State High Court has denied bail to former governor Nasir El-Rufai, citing concerns that his influence could interfere with ongoing investigations.

Justice Darius Khobo held that the allegations of financial impropriety against the former governor are serious enough to warrant his continued detention.

Counsel to El-Rufai, Ubong Akpan, said the defence disagrees with the ruling but acknowledged the court’s reasoning. He confirmed that the legal team would challenge the decision by filing the necessary appeal.

The defence also alleged that the case is politically motivated, describing the proceedings as an extension of that agenda.

The ruling comes despite an earlier decision by the Federal High Court in Kaduna granting El-Rufai bail under strict conditions, pending compliance with those terms.
