A gas explosion at a filling station in Edibe Edibe, Calabar South Local Government Area of Cross River State, has left several people injured and triggered panic among residents.

The incident, which occurred within the facility, caused varying degrees of injuries to victims and led to significant damage to nearby buildings and property.

Eyewitnesses said a loud blast preceded the explosion, forcing residents and passersby to flee the area as flames quickly spread across parts of the station.

Several victims were reported to have sustained serious injuries. While some received immediate attention at nearby patent medicine stores, others were taken to hospitals for further treatment.

Emergency responders and security personnel were promptly deployed to the scene to contain the fire, evacuate affected individuals, and provide assistance to the injured.

Authorities are yet to confirm the exact cause of the explosion as investigations continue.
