Operatives of the Zamfara State Police Command have foiled a bandit attack and rescued five abducted women and children along the Gusau–Dansadau Road in Zamfara State.
According to a statement issued by the Command, the incident occurred at about 4:30 p.m. on 30 December 2025, when operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, while on confidence-building patrol along the route, sighted distressed motorists and commuters who had been blocked by armed bandits.
The police said the operatives swiftly engaged the bandits upon sighting them, forcing the attackers to retreat into the bush with possible gunshot injuries, abandoning their victims in the process.
On reaching the scene, it was discovered that the bandits had earlier abducted women and children travelling from Wanke to Gusau and were attempting to take them into the bush before fleeing due to pressure from the police.
The operatives successfully rescued the victims and conveyed them in a police vehicle to Gusau.
The rescued persons were identified as:
1. Blessing Emeka
2. Fatima Saidu
3. Shamsiya Saidu
4. Umar Saidu
5. Bashar Umar
Police said the rescued victims were promptly given medical attention and have since been reunited with their families.
Commending the operatives, Commissioner of Police, Zamfara State Command, CP Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, psc+, reassured residents of the Command’s continued commitment to the protection of lives and property. He also urged members of the public to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information.
