Founder and Chairman of BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu, has approved ₦30 billion in cash rewards for long-serving employees of the conglomerate, reinforcing the company’s commitment to staff welfare and loyalty recognition.
The announcement was made on Saturday at the BUA Night of Excellence Long Service Awards held at Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The annual ceremony brought together employees from BUA Group and its subsidiaries to honour years of dedication and service. At the event, five staff members received ₦1 billion each, while another five were awarded ₦500 million apiece. Several others received ₦100 million.
Additional employees were also rewarded with cash prizes ranging from ₦5 million to ₦20 million, ensuring that recognition cut across various levels of the organization and was not limited to top executives.
According to the company, the awards were designed to celebrate loyalty, dedication and the often-unseen contributions of staff whose efforts are critical to the group’s daily operations and long-term success.
The initiative builds on earlier workforce-focused interventions by the BUA Group. In February 2024, Rabiu approved a 50 per cent salary increase for both permanent and contract staff, a move that stood out amid rising inflation and the depreciation of the naira, while also ensuring non-permanent workers benefited.
At the ceremony, Rabiu authorized tiered cash awards based on years of service. In 2021, he also awarded a ₦2 billion share bonus from his personal holdings to employees of BUA Cement in recognition of their contributions during the economic disruptions of 2020.
