Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Brazil following his representation of President Bola Tinubu at the 30th Session of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Belém, Brazil.
The conference, held from November 6 to 7 in the Brazilian Amazon, brought together global leaders, development partners, and business executives to discuss climate action and sustainable development.
At the Leaders’ Climate Summit, Shettima delivered Nigeria’s statement, titled “The Rational Soul of Nature”, reaffirming the country’s commitment to taking a leading role in climate initiatives across Africa. He described Nigeria’s climate agenda as “not just an aspiration, but a solemn national commitment to preserve the planet for future generations.”
The Vice President also represented President Tinubu at a high-level session on “Climate and Nature: Forests and Oceans”, where he called on global partners to recognize the economic value of nature and channel funding toward its protection and restoration through predictable, equitable, and accessible mechanisms.
Shettima’s visit concluded a series of high-level engagements aimed at strengthening global partnerships for climate action. He is expected back in Nigeria on Sunday.
