Manchester City have signed Argentina international goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli from Marseille on a two-year deal, with both clubs confirming the move on Wednesday.
The 34-year-old will serve as City’s second-choice goalkeeper behind Italian international Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Rulli returns to Manchester City for a second spell after spending the 2016/17 season at the Etihad Stadium without making a first-team appearance.
“This is an amazing opportunity for me and one I had to grasp,” Rulli said.
“When the chance to join Manchester City comes along, you have to go for it.”
The goalkeeper added that he was determined to work hard, settle into the squad and reach his best level at the club.
Rulli has earned eight caps for Argentina and was part of the squad that won the 2022 FIFA World Cup and 2024 Copa America. He was also involved in Argentina’s squad for last month’s World Cup final defeat by Spain.
The goalkeeper has previously played for Real Sociedad, Villarreal, Montpellier and Ajax.
He famously scored a penalty during Villarreal’s 2021 Europa League final victory over Manchester United before saving David de Gea’s spot-kick to help Villarreal win the shootout 11-10.
Rulli’s departure comes as Marseille look to raise funds after being fined €10 million for failing to meet UEFA financial break-even targets.
The French club also missed out on Champions League football after finishing fifth in Ligue 1 during the 2025/26 season.
Marseille have already parted ways with several high-profile earners this summer, including English forward Mason Greenwood, who joined Fenerbahce, and Gabonese striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who moved to Deportivo La Coruña.
The club also announced on Tuesday the departure of Argentine defender Facundo Medina to Bayer Leverkusen after just one season in France.
