FIFA has said the Super Eagles’ chances of qualifying for the 2030 FIFA World Cup will depend more on the stability of Nigeria’s football structure than on the team’s playing ability.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the world football governing body highlighted Nigeria’s rich football talent but stressed that long-term success requires a strong and consistent administrative framework.
The three-time African champions failed to qualify for a second consecutive FIFA World Cup after missing out on the 2026 tournament.
Eric Chelle’s side finished second behind South Africa in Group C of the CAF qualifiers before losing to the Democratic Republic of Congo in the continental play-off final.
Despite the setback, FIFA expressed confidence in Nigeria’s football potential, citing the country’s proven record of producing talented players.
“Nevertheless, with the country’s vast footballing production line, Nigeria’s potential remains enormous,” the statement read in part.
“Making it to the 2030 showpiece will therefore hinge less on ability than on stability in the shape of a robust structure that paves the way for reliable performances.”
