Liverpool FC have dismissed head coach Arne Slot after what the club described as the need for a new direction following an underwhelming Premier League title defence.
The Dutch manager leaves Anfield after two seasons in charge, with Liverpool finishing fifth in the league standings despite entering the campaign as defending champions.
Reports suggest growing frustration among supporters over a series of poor performances, while tensions within the dressing room reportedly became more visible, with Mohamed Salah among the players who publicly voiced concerns.
In a statement released on Saturday, Liverpool confirmed that Slot had left his position with immediate effect and that the search for a new manager was already underway.
The club said the decision was based on the need for a fresh approach rather than a reflection of Slot’s abilities as a coach.
Liverpool also acknowledged the manager’s contribution during his time at the club, highlighting the Premier League title won under his leadership.
“That does not diminish the work Arne has done here, or the respect we have for him,” the club said.
“Nor is it a reflection of his talents. Rather, it is indicative of the need for a different approach.”
The club added that Slot departs with its gratitude and will always be welcome at Anfield alongside his family.
