Popular Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo has reportedly died at the age of 40.
News of his death emerged on Tuesday and was confirmed by several of his colleagues in the Nigerian film industry, including actress Funke Akindele, actor Bolanle Ninalowo, and actor Godwin Nnadiekwe, who all paid tributes to him on social media.
Sharing an emotional message via her Instagram story, Funke Akindele wrote:
“Hmmmmmm. Rest in peace, Alex. I tried to reach out to see you one more time but guess you knew best. May your kind soul rest in peace, Alex.”
“‘Ore mi’ like you fondly called me, I will always remember and cherish the good times we shared together. Rest in Peace, Alex.”
Bolanle Ninalowo, who is currently in the United States, also reacted to the news on his Instagram page.
“Rest on, Alex. May God heal your family and us all,” he wrote.
Actor Godwin Nnadiekwe described the development as heartbreaking.
“I’m struggling to find the words. This news has truly broken me. Nollywood has lost a rare soul, and I’m lost for words because this wasn’t the plan, Alex Ekubo,” he wrote.
“To think you already prepared your Will — it’s heartbreaking, I can’t quite describe. Rest well, my friend.”
Before news of his death surfaced, reports indicate that Alex Ekubo had been absent from social media for an extended period, with his last Instagram post reportedly made on December 30, 2024, sparking speculation among fans about his wellbeing and public absence.
As of the time of filing this report, the actor’s family had not officially issued a statement regarding his death.
