A former Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, has publicly declared his support for the Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Ambode, in a statement he personally signed on Thursday, congratulated Hamzat on his emergence as the consensus governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing him as a committed party loyalist.
“I join my fellow members of the APC to congratulate my brother and friend, Dr. Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat, on his emergence as the consensus governorship candidate of our great party,” he said.
He commended Hamzat’s consultations within the party, noting that they reflected his dedication to the party’s ideals of unity and progress.
According to Ambode, Hamzat’s adoption as the party’s candidate is a testament to his loyalty, hard work, and over two decades of service to the party.
“I am sure that our state will benefit immensely from your wealth of experience and skills,” he added.
The former governor also reaffirmed his support for the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, linking the future prosperity of Lagos and Nigeria to the continuity of his administration.
“I restate my unshakeable commitment to support the re-election of our leader, President Bola Tinubu. I strongly believe that the greater prosperity of Lagos and indeed Nigeria is firmly tied to his continued governance,” he said.
Ambode expressed confidence in the President’s vision, stating that it would deliver growth and prosperity for the country.
He further urged members of the APC in Lagos to mobilise support, calling for a target of at least three million votes for Tinubu in the next election cycle.
“As Lagos APC, our mission should be to deliver at least three million votes for Mr President and support other states in the South West to achieve strong results,” he said.
Ambode added that party members should also work to retain all APC-held seats in the National Assembly, expressing optimism about the party’s prospects in the 2027 elections.
