The Federal Government has announced Thursday, 19 March, and Friday, 20 March 2026, as public holidays to mark the celebration of Eid-el-Fitr, which signals the end of Ramadan.
The declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government.
In a statement released on Tuesday by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani, the minister extended warm greetings and congratulations to Muslim faithful on successfully completing the fasting period.
Tunji-Ojo urged Muslims to uphold the virtues emphasised during Ramadan, including love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice. He also called on Nigerians to pray for the continued peace, unity, and prosperity of the country during the festive period.
While wishing citizens a joyful Eid-el-Fitr celebration, the minister encouraged responsible festivities and acts of kindness toward the less privileged. He added that the Federal Government remains committed to promoting national unity and peaceful coexistence among all Nigerians.
