The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed a fatal multiple-vehicle accident that claimed the lives of twelve people at Gada Biyu along the Yangoji–Abuja (YGJ–ABJ) corridor.
The crash occurred at about 11:45 a.m. on Sunday, 11 January 2026.
In a statement signed by the Corps Public Education Officer, Segun Ogungbemide, the FRSC said the accident involved four vehicles — a commercial trailer carrying coal, a commercial bus, and two commercial cars.
Preliminary investigations attributed the incident to speeding and dangerous driving. According to the report, the trailer driver was travelling at an excessive speed beyond the legally prescribed limit for the corridor, lost control of the vehicle, and rammed into already parked vehicles, triggering the deadly collision.
Out of the 18 people involved, five died instantly at the scene, while seven others who were rescued and taken to the hospital later succumbed to their injuries, bringing the total death toll to 12.
Three other victims sustained varying degrees of injuries, including bruises, cuts, fractures, and head injuries, and are currently receiving medical treatment.
The FRSC has reiterated its call on motorists to adhere strictly to speed limits and traffic regulations to prevent avoidable road tragedies.
