The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has cautioned residents against the sale, purchase, and use of firecrackers, knockouts, and other banned pyrotechnics as the ember-month festivities approach.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner of Police, CP Miller Dantawaye, psc, the Command expressed concern over the increasing circulation of these explosives across the Territory. It warned that firecrackers pose serious safety hazards, including injuries, fire outbreaks, and public panic, and could be exploited by criminals to mask illicit activities.

The Command noted that the indiscriminate use of such items threatens public safety and disrupts peace, particularly endangering children, the elderly, and individuals with health vulnerabilities.

Residents were urged to comply fully with the directive, as police personnel have been instructed to enforce the ban and prosecute violators.

The Command also appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report any sale or use of firecrackers to the nearest police station or through its emergency numbers: 08032003913 and 08068587311.
