The Nasarawa State House of Assembly is set to pass a bill establishing the State Youth Empowerment Agency, which will provide personnel with skills acquisition training and improved welfare packages.

This follows the adoption of a report seeking to amend the existing law during the House plenary. The bill, sponsored by Hon. Solomon Yakubu Akwashiki, aims to legalize the empowerment scheme and enhance both the capacity and remuneration of its workforce.

The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Dr. Danladi Jatau, disclosed that the report contained 12 recommendations, all of which were adopted by the lawmakers. He explained that the proposed law would subject personnel to relevant skills training to enable them to contribute meaningfully to the state’s economy.

Once passed, the initiative will officially be known as the Nasarawa State Youth Empowerment Agency (NAYEA).

In other developments, the House has received two new bills — one proposing to name the Banquet Hall at the Government House, Lafia, after the late Governor Aliyu Akwe Doma, and another seeking to name the Presidential Lodge after Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura.

The Speaker referred both bills to the House Standing Committee on Works, which is expected to report back on the 24th and 25th of this month, respectively.

Additionally, the House received a letter from the Governor requesting the confirmation of Kefas Julius Bala as the State Auditor-General, with his screening scheduled for Wednesday.

The plenary also observed a minute of silence in honor of the late Barr. Solomon Ewuga, a pioneer Deputy Governor of the state and former Senator.
