The Zamfara State Government has constituted a technical committee to identify a suitable site for the proposed Anka Airstrip in Anka Local Government Area of the state.
The committee was set up by the Zamfara State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, in collaboration with the Ministry for Local Government, Ministry for Housing, Zamfara Geographic Information System (ZAGIS), Anka Local Government Council, Anka Emirate Council, and representatives of relevant security agencies.
According to a statement issued by the Information Officer, Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Jamilu Bello, the Ministry has already deployed a technical team to Anka to conduct extensive field inspections, stakeholder engagements and technical assessments in line with established planning, safety and regulatory standards.
The statement explained that the assignment of the committee is ongoing and that a suitable parcel of land will be recommended upon the completion of the exercise.
The technical committee is chaired by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Haruna Dikko, while field operations are being led by the Director of Civil Engineering, Engr. Amiru Musa Anka, who also serves as the Secretary of the Committee.
The initiative, the Ministry said, forms part of the commitment of the Zamfara State Government, under the leadership of Governor Dauda Lawal, to improve connectivity, strengthen security operations and promote sustainable socio-economic development across the state.
