The Kebbi State Police Command has clarified that the recent explosion at the General Hospital in Bagudo was caused by an inferno, not explosives or aerial activity.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, triggering panic among residents, though no casualties were recorded, the police confirmed.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, said in a statement that the explosion resulted from “an inferno which overheated air-conditioning and refrigerator gas cylinders, resulting in the loud explosions observed.”

He added, “Investigations and expert assessments have confirmed that the incident was caused by an inferno. No explosives or aerial activity were involved.”
SP Usman further explained that Explosive Ordnance Disposal – Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) experts, alongside the Commissioner of Police Tactical Team, verified that there was no involvement of explosives or aerial activity. “No loss of life or injuries occurred, as verified by the on-site expert teams,” he said.
The Police Command urged the public and media to disregard unverified reports suggesting a bomb or helicopter involvement, emphasizing that “ the situation remains fully under control, and the Command remains committed to public safety and transparency.”
Earlier reports indicated that the explosion created confusion in Bagudo. However, the state police emphasized that the incident was accidental and involved no criminal activity, with security agencies promptly securing the area to prevent further risks.
