The Joint Unions of Nasarawa State Tertiary Institutions (JUNSTI) have commenced an indefinite strike over the state government’s failure to implement the newly approved National Minimum Wage.
The decision followed what the union described as fruitless engagements with the Nasarawa State Government, despite repeated assurances that implementation would commence in November.
According to the union’s leadership, the government had agreed to begin payment of the new wage structure but has failed to honour the agreement, prompting the withdrawal of services across affected institutions.
JUNSTI comprises staff unions from the College of Education, Akwanga; Isa Mustapha Agwai Polytechnic; and the College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Lafia.
The union has directed all members to comply fully with the strike action, while urging them to remain calm, resolute, and united as negotiations continue.
JUNSTI said the strike will remain in force until the Nasarawa State Government fully implements the agreed minimum wage structure.
