President Bola Tinubu has sent his condolences to the family of Chief Arthur Christopher Mbanefo, who died at the age of 95.

Chief Mbanefo was Nigeria’s former Permanent Representative to the United Nations and a former Pro-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Obafemi Awolowo University, and Ahmadu Bello University. He was also a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria.

President Tinubu mourned the accounting icon, thought leader and administrator, describing him as one of the finest stocks of Nigeria’s elder statesmen, distinguished by integrity, hard work and patriotism.

The President said Chief Mbanefo served Nigeria with dedication and a high sense of duty during his time in public service, and pioneered innovations in the nation’s accountancy, tax and audit systems while in the private sector.

President Tinubu also commiserated with the friends and associates of the late elder statesman, as well as the government and people of Anambra State, on the loss.

He urged all those mourning to take solace in the legacy of Chief Mbanefo, noting that his contributions would endure through the impact of his work on Nigeria’s development.

The President prayed for the repose of Chief Mbanefo’s soul and for comfort for his family.
