Senator Ned Nwoko, who represents Delta North Senatorial District, has debunked claims that he married Nollywood actress Regina Daniels when she was underage.
In a post shared on his official X handle on Thursday, the lawmaker described the reports as “entirely untrue and misleading,” while releasing a picture of the actress’s voter’s card to support his claim.
Nwoko stated that Regina Daniels was 21 years old at the time of their marriage, not 17 as widely speculated.
“It has come to my attention that false claims are being circulated by Regina, suggesting that I married her when she was 17 years old. These claims are entirely untrue and misleading,” he wrote.
“During our first meeting, I asked her age, and she told me she was 21 years old. She also presented her INEC voter’s card, which shows she was born on October 10, 1998.”
He further noted that he kept the document in his possession since then and referenced an earlier BBC interview in which the actress’s mother reportedly dismissed the underage marriage allegation.
Nwoko added that their marriage took place six years ago, which would make the actress 27 years old as of 2025.
“Any suggestion that I married her at 17 is false and should not be accepted by the public,” he said.
“The facts are verifiable and indisputable. I urge the public to approach such claims with caution and discernment.”
The senator also alleged that the actress has struggled with substance abuse, suggesting that her “mental condition” might have influenced the renewed controversy.
