Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has called on security experts, analysts, and media professionals to work together in finding lasting solutions to the persistent challenge of armed banditry in Nigeria.

Speaking at a security summit organised by the Arewa Broadcast Media Practitioners Forum in collaboration with the Kebbi State Government, the governor stressed the importance of collective action and strategic dialogue in addressing the nation’s security concerns.

Governor Idris highlighted ongoing efforts by his administration to engage stakeholders, invest in security infrastructure, and implement effective strategies that have led to the return of displaced communities. He, however, acknowledged that armed banditry remains a serious threat that requires sustained collaboration.

The summit attracted commendation from several high-profile participants, including former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd), who applauded the governor’s proactive engagement in promoting peace and stability.

Also speaking, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, pledged support for Kebbi State’s ongoing initiatives, while the Chairman of the Broadcast Media Practitioners Forum, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Yelwa, described Kebbi as a fitting host for strategic security dialogues, given its combination of kinetic and non-kinetic approaches to tackling insecurity.

Renowned security experts such as former INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, and former Nigerian Army Director of Information, Maj. Gen. Kuka Sheka (rtd), are also expected to present papers and recommendations at the summit.

Governor Idris reiterated his administration’s commitment to continuous dialogue and collaboration among stakeholders to create a safer, more secure environment for all Nigerians, while addressing both the immediate threats of banditry and the underlying socio-economic issues that fuel insecurity.
