For the first time in history, renewable energy sources have generated more electricity than coal worldwide, according to the United Nations.
In a statement shared on the official UN Facebook account, Secretary-General António Guterres hailed the milestone as a turning point in the global energy transition.
“The clean energy future is no longer a distant promise – it’s here,” Guterres said, urging countries to seize the moment and accelerate efforts toward a sustainable, low-carbon future.
The UN emphasized that the achievement highlights growing global momentum for renewable energy adoption and calls for continued investment to ensure a just and inclusive energy transition.
