Adeleke Demands Release of PDP Chairman After Arrest

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has condemned the arrest of the state Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sunday Bisi, and called for his immediate release.

Adeleke made the demand in a statement issued on Saturday, August 15, 2026, and signed by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, as voting continued in the Osun State governorship election.

According to the statement, Bisi was arrested at his residence in Ilesa shortly after returning from his polling unit, where he had voted.

The governor said he was informed that the PDP chairman was taken to an undisclosed location, adding that no reason had been provided for his arrest.

Adeleke described the development as an attempt to intimidate his supporters and alleged that the arrest was part of a broader effort to interfere with the collation of results.

The governor also accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of working with what he described as compromised security agents to restrict his supporters and others from monitoring the collation process.

“This latest sweep on my supporters, I have authoritatively learnt, is part of a broader plan to give the APC unhindered access to change results at collation centres and upturn our wins at the poll,” Adeleke said.

He described any attempt to interfere with the collation of results as an attack on democracy and urged security agencies and other authorities not to allow state institutions to be used to manipulate the outcome of the election.

Adeleke further demanded the release of Bisi and other persons he described as political prisoners across the state.

The governor stressed that the outcome of the election should reflect the free choice of voters without intimidation or coercion.

“Election should be about the people freely giving their mandates to the person of their choice without threat or force,” he said.

The allegation by the governor comes as voting and the collation of results continue across Osun State, with political parties and their supporters closely monitoring the process.
