A fire incident at Terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos on Sunday prompted an emergency response by aviation authorities, with normal operations later resuming at the facility.

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) had earlier confirmed the outbreak, stating that its Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Service (ARFFS) was immediately deployed to the scene to contain the fire and prevent it from escalating.

According to the authority, emergency personnel were mobilised to ensure the safety of passengers and airport facilities within the terminal.

FAAN also assured the public that no casualties or injuries were recorded.

“The FAAN Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Service is currently responding to the incident and working diligently to contain the situation,” the agency said in its initial statement.

In a subsequent update, FAAN announced that activities at the terminal had returned to normal.

“Normal operations have resumed at Terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, following the earlier incident. Passengers are being processed, and flight activities are continuing as scheduled,” the authority said.

FAAN noted that the cause of the fire has yet to be determined and added that further details would be provided as more information becomes available.

The Murtala Muhammed International Airport is Nigeria’s busiest aviation hub, handling thousands of domestic and international passengers daily.
