Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has relieved six commissioners of their appointments as part of a minor cabinet reshuffle aimed at strengthening his administration.
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Labaran Magaji, announced the development while briefing journalists after the State Executive Council meeting held on Tuesday in Lafia.
Magaji said the affected commissioners oversaw the Ministries of Works, Women Affairs, Information, Lands, Science and Technology, as well as Security and Sundry Matters.
He explained that the commissioners were asked to step aside to create room for fresh ideas and reposition the administration for improved service delivery in the remaining months of Governor Sule’s tenure.
According to him, the decision was not a reflection of poor performance, as the government recognised the dedication, efficiency and commitment of the affected officials during their time in office.
“The government appreciates their contributions. The adjustment is intended to rejig the system, inject fresh energy into the administration and ensure that the mandate given to Gov. Abdullahi Sule is fully delivered within the remaining period of this administration,” he said.
The SSG added that the former commissioners would remain part of the administration and could be considered for other responsibilities in the future.
He also disclosed that the names of their replacements would be announced through the appropriate channels.
Magaji further revealed that the State Executive Council deliberated extensively on strategies to boost internally generated revenue by leveraging investments in the state’s growing lithium sector.
According to him, the discussions followed the recent inauguration of one of Africa’s largest lithium processing plants in Nasarawa by President Bola Tinubu, who was represented at the event by Vice-President Kashim Shettima.
He said the government is working on measures to maximise the economic benefits of the expanding lithium processing industry, adding that details of the council’s decisions would be made public at the appropriate time.
