President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended corporate Nigeria, investors, and stakeholders for pushing the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) past the historic ₦100 trillion market capitalization mark.

Describing the achievement as an inspiration for the investing public, Tinubu urged Nigerians to deepen investments in the local economy, assuring that 2026 would deliver even greater returns as his administration’s economic reforms continue to strengthen outcomes.

“With the NGX crossing the ₦100 trillion milestone, the country is witnessing the birth of a new economic reality and rejuvenation,” he said.

The President highlighted the NGX All-Share Index performance in 2025, which closed the year with a 51.19% return, surpassing the 37.65% recorded in 2024, and outperforming global markets including the S&P 500 and FTSE 100, as well as emerging-market peers in the BRICS+ group.

He also noted improvements in Nigeria’s overall economic indicators:

  • Current account surplus: $16 billion in 2024, projected to rise to $18.81 billion in 2026.
  • Non-oil exports: up 48% to ₦9.2 trillion, with exports to Africa surging 97% to ₦4.9 trillion.
  • Manufacturing exports: increased 67% year-on-year.
  • Foreign reserves: crossed $45 billion, with projections to exceed $50 billion in Q1 2026.

Tinubu also highlighted infrastructure development, including rail networks, superhighways, ports revitalization, and improvements in medicare and education funding through initiatives like the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).

“Nation-building is a process, not a destination. Hard work, sacrifices, and the focus of its citizens build a nation. The ₦100 trillion market capitalization is a signal to the world that the Nigerian economy is robust and productive,” he said, pledging to continue fostering a transparent, high-growth, and egalitarian economy under his administration.
