Two members of the House of Representatives under the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), citing an irreconcilable crisis within the NNPP’s Kano State chapter as a reason for this action.
The lawmakers, Abdulmumin Jibrin and Sagir Goki, announced their defections in separate letters read on the floor of the House by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen on Tuesday.
Their defection comes barely 24 hours after Daniel Amos, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmaker from Kaduna State, also joined the APC.
In the Senate, Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, who had earlier declared his intention to defect, formally switched allegiance during plenary on Tuesday. His letter of defection was read by Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, who presided over the session.
The wave of defections is seen as a boost for the APC ahead of upcoming political activities.
