Today, October 11, the world marks the International Day of the Girl Child, a global observance dedicated to highlighting the challenges girls face and promoting their rights to education, health, and equal opportunities.

This year’s theme, “Invest in Girls’ Rights: Our Leadership, Our Well-being,” calls for greater commitment from governments and communities to support girls’ education, end child marriage, and create safe spaces where they can thrive.

In many countries, girls continue to face barriers such as gender-based violence, limited access to technology, and cultural discrimination. Advocates say empowering girls is key to building stronger, more inclusive societies.

Across the world, schools, NGOs, and government agencies are hosting events and campaigns to celebrate girls’ achievements and push for policies that ensure their voices are heard.

The United Nations emphasizes that when girls are educated and empowered, they become powerful agents of change for a better future.
