The Kaduna State Police Command has successfully repelled an attempted attack by armed bandits in Idisu Village, Giwa Local Government Area, neutralising two suspects and recovering firearms during a coordinated security operation.
The incident occurred on Saturday, 11 January 2026, at about 9:30 a.m., following credible intelligence that a group of armed bandits, allegedly led by Kachalla Sanusi Bajira, was mobilising to attack residents of the community.
According to the police, the bandit leader had imposed an illegal levy on the villagers and threatened to unleash violence after the community failed to comply with his demands.
Acting on the intelligence, the Commissioner of Police, Kaduna State Command, CP Rabiu Muhammad, psc, mni, immediately directed the Officer-in-Charge of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit to mobilise operatives to the area.
The team, working in collaboration with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), was deployed to Idisu Village, Idissu Ward, Bayan Kogi axis of Giwa LGA, where they encountered the bandits, who had already laid an ambush.
Upon sighting the operatives, the bandits reportedly engaged them in a gun duel. However, the police operatives overpowered the attackers with superior firepower, leading to the neutralization of two bandits, while others fled into the surrounding bushes.
During the operation, the police recovered two firearms and five live rounds of ammunition from the fleeing suspects.
Commending the operatives, CP Rabiu Muhammad praised their gallantry and professionalism and reassured residents of the command’s resolve to sustain aggressive, intelligence-driven operations against banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes.
He warned criminal elements that Kaduna State will not be a safe haven for them, as the police remain committed to protecting lives and property across the state.
The statement was signed by DSP Mansir Hassan, anipr, Police Public Relations Officer, Kaduna State Police Command, on 12 January 2026.
