The management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Iseyin campus, has announced a two-week suspension of academic activities following the death of a 200-level student in the Department of Agricultural Economics. The student was fatally struck by a commercial vehicle on the Iseyin/Saki Road, Oyo State, on Friday morning.
Following the incident, other students staged a protest and set the vehicle ablaze after discovering that the driver fled the scene.
Confirming the development on Saturday, LAUTECH Registrar Olayinka Balogun said: “The management of LAUTECH, Ogbomoso, deeply regrets to announce the tragic passing of a 200-level student of the Department of Agricultural Economics, who was fatally wounded by a hit-and-run driver in Iseyin. This heartbreaking incident has cast a shadow over our university community, and we extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased.”
He added, “Consequently, all students in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Renewable Natural Resources are to proceed on a two-week break. Students are expected to return to classrooms on Monday, November 24, 2025. Officers on essential services who may be required to be on duty will be informed in the usual manner.”
Balogun urged students to remain safe, support one another, and honour the memory of their departed colleague.
